Font in Terminal, Xterm, and FoxtrotGPS broken

Reported by: gerhard Owned by: mrmoku
Priority: minor Milestone: shr-2012.07
Component: SHR Image Version: SHR-core
Keywords: terminal font Cc:

Description

When opening Terminal, XTerm, or FoxtrotGPS, all characters there are displayed as small rectangles. Other apps, eg. iliwi, are ok. I have first seen this problem in 20120727155424, it was not in 20120703195739
This is on gta02, booted from SD.
If you cannot reproduce this I'll provide more info.

IIRC I've seen similar report a while ago and reporter then said that on next boot it was fine. Can you check after reboot?

I don't remember anything font related in last staging, but you can compare files in images or buildhistory:
http://git.shr-project.org/git/?p=buildhistory.git;a=history;f=images/om_gta02/eglibc/shr-image;hb=HEAD

If you don't find the issue I'll look later when I get home (probably tomorrow)...

  • Priority changed from major to minor

First let me correct: XTerm works fine.

A reboot does not change this issue.

Starting vala-terminal from a shell gave the following hint:

(vala-terminal:805): Pango-CRITICAL **: No modules found:
No builtin or dynamically loaded modules were found.
PangoFc will not work correctly.
This probably means there was an error in the creation of:
  '/etc/pango/pango.modules'
You should create this file by running:
  pango-querymodules > '/etc/pango/pango.modules'

I ran the command in the last line (the file had indeed been missing) - and now Terminal and FoxtrotGPS display correctly.

I do not know however why this file was missing?

Btw that thread continues in 2012-August
http://lists.linuxtogo.org/pipermail/openembedded-core/2012-August/027179.html

and smalles manual work around is:
http://lists.linuxtogo.org/pipermail/openembedded-core/2012-August/027484.html
pango-querymodules > '/etc/pango/pango.modules'
